Lord of the Rings

Discussion Group Questions

  1. The central figure in the story is a hobbit named Frodo Baggins, who finds himself unexpectedly thrust into a greater story. In your opinion, is the story of life merely the sum of each individual's life, or are we all part of a greater story or design that gives meaning, purpose and direction to life?

  2. Frodo was faced with a danger that he did not know, understand or choose. What have you done in your life when faced with a difficulty that you did not choose, you may not have fully understood, and may not have known what was ahead?

  3. In the movie, the dark lord, Sauron, seeks to gain evil control over all. Do you believe there is a battle between the ultimate good and evil in the world today?

  4. As the story unfolds, we find Frodo to be an unlikely hero. What do you think it takes to be a hero?

  5. If, like Frodo, you were called upon to sacrifice your life in the pursuit of ultimate good for others, would you be willing to do so?

  6. In the midst of the darkness and despair surrounding Frodo and his group, where did they find their hope? Where do you find your hope when things seem bleak?
