Bible Club Question
This is something that happened just recently. A
High School Student wrote to us and said, "I have started a Bible club in my school.
Can I put up posters and have flyers distributed about it? We have a very low attendance
that I'd like to raise."
The Coaching Center responded with a fourfold plan.
FIRST: I would copy this government page for your principal (http://www.ed.gov/Speeches/08-1995/religion.html).
I'd make one up for yourself too. In this page it says, "Religious literature:
Students have a right to distribute religious literature to their schoolmates on the same
terms as they are permitted to distribute other literature that is unrelated to school
curriculum or activities. Schools may impose the same reasonable time, place, and manner
or other constitutional restrictions on distribution of religious literature as they do on
nonschool literature generally, but they may not single out religious literature for
Therefore, posters and flyers are permitted the same as any other club.
SECOND: I would have my Bible club start praying for more people.
THIRD: Remember that personal invitation has a far greater influence
than flyers or posters.
FOURTH: I'd put up and pass out the flyers and posters.
The student sent back another email. "Thank you. I showed that to my principal and
he showed it to the superintendent, who then approved of it. I just need to get the
Board's approval of the flyer before it can be passed out.
I have asked various members to pray about it, but we haven't had a meeting since
receiving this, but on Wednesday I'll talk to them about it.
Thank you so much.
