Planning for Campus Ministry

Getting ready for campus ministry means that you have some serious homework to do.

Learn about the campus and investigate the Christian influence on campus.

  • How many students are in your school?
  • How many students from your church go to your school?
  • Who are the Christian kids on campus?
  • Who are the Christian teachers and administrators?
  • How many would be committed to campus ministry?
  • Are there already any Christian organizations on campus?
  • What are they doing?
  • How effective are they in spreading the gospel?
  • Can you work with them?
  • If so, how?
  • If not, how can your campus ministry operate without creating the impression of competition?

Transfer the vision for campus ministry to other students and adults.

  • Discuss with others about the lostness of man and that it is each Christian’s responsibility to reach their friends for Christ.
  • Discuss this statement: "Either you are a missionary or a mission field."
  • Spend time in prayer with others for your campus.
  • Plan with them what steps to take to evangelize your campus for Christ.

Become disciples.

  • Each Christian should know how to share his faith with others and how to be an effective witness on campus.
  • Each should learn how to excel in the basics of discipleship, just as you are attempting to do in your life.

Preparing for Campus Ministry

Make a list of 10 friends you would like to see come to Christ this year. Pray for them daily. Seek every opportunity possible to influence them toward the Lord. As soon as one of them comes to Christ, mark off the name and add another name to the list.

Preparing for Spiritual Battles

In which of the following areas do I need improvement?

___ Prayer for campus

___ Personal prayer

___ Taking a stand

___ Leading a Bible study

___ Personal Bible study

___ Being discipled

___ Handling peer pressure

___ Witnessing skills

___ Other

How am I going to improve myself in these areas, so I can effectively be used by God this year?

Who can teach me how to grow in Christ?

How may I be involved in a discipleship group at church?

What commitments do I need to make in my devotional life?

If your life is going to have an impact on your campus, you must make serving Christ your highest priority. Write out your past high school priorities and the priorities you will have for this year.

  • Past Priorities –
  • This Year’s Priorities –

List the Christian students on your campus with whom you will share your dream for reaching your campus for Christ. "Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken" (Ecclesiastes 4:12).

Prayer

There are things that God wants to do in your life and in your school that will only happen through prayer. If your school is going to be touched by the power of God this year, it will be because you and others have committed your lives to prayer.
