Quiet Times

Every day, set aside a special time called "Quiet Time." During this time you can talk to God and let him talk to you through the Bible. There are a lot of good methods that can be used for your Quiet Time. Here is one suggestion called the PRESS method.

1. Pray
Begin by thanking God for the new day, and then ask him to help you learn from what you read.

2. Read
To get started, read the following verses on the designated days:

  • Day 1 – Luke 19:1-9
  • Day 2 – Luke 9:23-26
  • Day 3 – Hebrews 10:19-25
  • Day 4 – Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
  • Day 5 – Keep going! Start reading through the Gospel of John.

3. Examine
Ask yourself the following questions: What is the main point of this passage? What does it tell me about God? About myself?

4. Summarize
Do one of the following:

  • Rewrite the verses in your own words.
  • Outline what each verse is saying.
  • Give each verse a one-word title which summarizes what it is saying.

5. Share
Talk with God about what you’ve learned. Also, take time each day to share with someone you know what you learned in your Quiet Time.

Having a daily Quiet Time is extremely important. It is the key to developing spiritually. You might want to continue your Quiet Time by reading in the book of Mark or John. Choose a few verses each day and use the PRESS method.
