SPICE UP YOUR PRAYER LIFE
Has prayer become a stale routine? Try these tips to spice up your experience.
S-silence-try listening more than speaking. King David often said that he waited upon the Lord. Rather than being a passive exercise, its the most aggressive position he took in seeking the face of God. Wait and seek are synonymous in Scriptures. During this time, God has the greatest chance to speak to us.
P-practice the presence of God. There are many minutes in our day that we can use to enter into Gods presence. Turn the radio off while going to work,, linger five minutes more while still in bed, hang a list of prayer requests in the shower (zip lock bag), talk to Him during lawn work the list is endless where we can develop what Brother Lawrence described as a continuous conversation with God.
I-intercede for others more than your own needs. This immediately takes your focus off yourself and onto what the Lord wants to do through you. Purchase a journal for entries, and begin today to jot down observations about people, events and circumstances where you could see God being glorified. Be open to being the answer to your own prayers.
C-confession: Make this a regular segment of your prayer time. Theres nothing like it to draw your heart near to God. Genuine humility will lead us into His presence quicker than anything else will. God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble. If God has completely forgiven our sin, why confess? We confess because it weds our heart again to God, and ushers us into the throne of Grace.
E-enter a prayer covenant with at least one other person. A cord of three strands will not easily be broken. People serious about prayer enter a war. We cant enter that battle alone and expect to survive very long. If youve struggled to stay consistent in prayer, find a like minded same sex prayer partner. Plan to meet regularly in order to encourage one another, and to pray with and for each other.
